Over the years wood-burning stoves have been tarnished with a bad reputation. Polluting, smoke-belching burners are now fast becoming a thing of the past. But not only that, they will soon be illegal. So if you’re in the market for a wood burning stove, you need to research carefully and make sure that you purchase it from a trusted and reputable maker. In this article, we will explain what EcoDesign means, why it is important, and how we at Town and Country Fires are contributing to the movement for a greener planet.

What is EcoDesign?

The term EcoDesgin was introduced across Europe in 2015 to lower emissions, save energy and improve the performance of appliances. To bring stove technology into the modern-day, new government legislation which comes into effect in January 2022, stipulates that all stoves sold in the UK must be EcoDesign. This is the stove industry’s response to the Department for Environment, Food and Real Affairs’ Clean Air Strategy. The legislation is intended to reduce a range of emissions including CO, NOx and CO2.

Why does EcoDesign matter?

By burning fuel more efficiently and more completely, Ecodesign compliant stoves can emit up to 84% fewer gaseous particles than a non-compliant stove, and up to 90% less emissions than an open fire. To be approved as an EcoDesign model, a stove must have CO/CO2 emissions of 0.12% or below. Following rigorous testing, we are proud to be able to certify that our EcoDesign stoves don’t just meet this target – they beat it comfortably.

We are EcoDesign ready

We now have an extensive range of stylish and EcoDesign ready stoves spanning our gas, solid fuel and wood-burning models. With timeless designs and finishes to suit every space, we can guarantee the exceptional quality of our stoves, because we make them from start to finish.

As well as this, many of our stoves are also approved for burning wood in designated “smokeless areas”. The aesthetic of a wood-burning stove may be traditional, but at Town and Country Fires, our stoves are built with the future of modern living in mind.
