So you’ve got your Town & Country Fires multi-fuel stove installed, looking great and all set to provide lots of heat throughout the house, but what fuel should you be burning in it?
Multi-fuel stoves are designed to allow airflow through the lower grate, meaning the air will be drawn up from underneath the flames, which is ideal for smokeless fuels.
This differs from wood burning stoves in which the logs burn best when sat on a bed of ash and therefore oxygen is accessed from above. It’s therefore important to burn the right fuel on the right stove.

It is important to know what fuel you can burn safely
Multi-fuel stoves are more versatile than a standard wood burning stove as they offer a variety of fuel options. However, this doesn’t mean you can burn anything in your multi-fuel stove. You should never burn liquid fuel, wood pellets, wood chips, rubbish, household coal or high percentage petroleum-based fuels on your multi-fuel stove.
Burning only the best fuels is essential to keeping your stove safe, clean and environmentally friendly, as well as ensuring your stove lasts a lifetime. Although the higher quality fuels may be more expensive in the short term, they will usually pay for themselves by burning hotter and longer meaning less fuel is needed as well as protecting your stove against damage and clogging.

Homefire Ovals: Homefire ovals are a manufactured medium to large-sized smokeless briquette suitable for Multi Fuel Stoves and Open Fires. You should not burn:
- Any liquid fuel
- Wood pellets
- Wood chips
- Any general household rubbish
- Household coal, high petroleum-based fuel, Petrocoke, Cosy Coke, Excel, Pureheat, Newheat, Burnwell or Anthracite.
